Episode 1 of Sesho's Anime and Manga Review Show. This first review is for the one shot Trade Paperback of "Space Pinchy". It is published by Dark Horse Comics: 223 Pages, $15.95.

That said, allow me to defend Tony Takezaki a bit (being a long time fan of his). Space Pinchy was never meant to have a story... which is something of a trademark of the author. Tony Takezaki started out doing normal manga enough (remember AD Police off shoot of Bubble Gum Crisis, and Genocyber.), but soon afterwards the man graduated to a very different, eccentric, and unique style: On the surface every one of his stories seems to be a parody of some scifi cliche, but in the end the connections are zero, and the outcome as obscure as cubism to classical artists. Oddly enough, these \\\"pointless\\\" stories are exactly his charm. Pointlessness (or apparently pointless) has very strong role to play in both modern as well as comic art on both sides of the Pacific, but especially in Japan (consider the definition of Yaoi for example). It is very, for the lack of a better word, \\\"zen\\\". This was especially true with his previous opus, 12 volumes of \\\"Dr. Kishiwada\\\'s Scientific Affection\\\". Truly, this is a work of strangeness, twisted hilarity, and yes, originality. Space Pinchy too was something in that vein, though he seemed to be more concerned with drawing pinups here... which is completely fine by me (and his fans no doubt). I for one am glad to shell out the money for this beautiful albeit non-sequitor book.
